How to visit Gonder

Gonder is typically the first or second stop along the historic north circuit

Most visitors spend one or two nights in Gonder, although the major sites can be explored in just one day.

The main attractions in Gonder are the ancient castle ruins of Fasil Ghebbi, the Fasilides Bath which comes alive during the annual festival of Timkat, and the stunning Debre Birhan Selassie Church

Beyond the sites, Gonder is a vibrant city with plenty of bars, restaurants and markets to explore. It's a great place to wander around and soak up the atmosphere.

After visiting Gonder, most travellers head up into the Simien Mountains National Park. It is a 2-hour drive from Gonder to the Simiens, and Gonder is the nearest airport town to the park.
